What's in a Frame. . . .

A client was in the other day with a concern about an heirloom, an antique lace piece.  The heirloom couldn't be used as an everyday textile (once attached to her greatgandmother's linen sheeting) due to it's age a frailty.  So I got to thinking.  A way to store, share, and exhibit special textiles is easy, just frame and hang!  Whether it is an antique doily in your bathroom or your old cheerleading uniform hanging in your daughter's room you can keep these textile memories for the family to see.  The one thing you don't want to do is date a room with the piece so try coupling older pieces with contemporary frames and furniture.  This is an easy and inexpensive way to add color to your walls and depth to your home.  Now. . . to get that sequin twirler leotard out of the closet for some sparkle!

It's Cactus-Hot Outside.

Every minute spent outside these days seems like one of tourture.  When 98 degrees reads on my car thermometer I find myself making excuses to put off errands and stay inside.  And now, with the Baby Girl it's a race to the finish when it comes to getting "geared-up" and entering any kind of store- though now it is more and more often the fabirc store.  I'm like a little mouse scurrying to get everything together, Roe in stroller, car off, and a sprint to the A/C.  Though, I have found inspriation through the misery.  Cacti are cute, prickly, found in the desert (which is close to dessert- something I can never turn down) and green (a great color and wonderful new social trend).  Here are my picks for a Cactus-Hot day:

Matthew Williamson "Tribe" Rug for The Rug Company,

"Cactus" Flash Drive, Lukas Koh

Cactus Wallpaper $150 per roll, Portland based company, Makelike

"Prickly Pair Chair", Valentina Gonzalez Wohler

Pinky on the Brain

My grandmother has inspired me. As a once self-termed "neutralist" I am taking a turn toward color. Color in everything. Now, I'm not as bold as one might think. . . I proceed with caution as this is new territory. This is quite a large step for me as friends and family have noticed and it is PINK that has been getting to me as of late. The nostalgia of my Barbie induced childhood has been creeping its way back into my life as ToysRus trips fill my schedule due to an evergrowing Baby Girl. The other day I came across a Barbie display in my local TRUs and it was a page out of WWD! I was seriously upset when I discovered that I didn't have my phone to capture the amazement (in order to send it to my style maven, LovelyCity). I sat there for a TWO w...h...o...l...e minutes staring. The thought of purchasing one of the "little black dress" beauties even fluttered through my mind. . . but so did the last Twilight book. . . .
